What is cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome? When was it first described?

In 2004, Allen et al. described a condition of cyclical hyperemesis that was associated with chronic long-term use of cannabis and that was relieved by bathing or showering in hot water. The cessation of cannabis use led to a resolution of symptoms. This condition was coined cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome. Since Allen's initial case reports of Australian patients, researchers in both North America and Europe have duplicated the findings and have published over 40 peer-reviewed articles detailing the disorder.
